Advocacy wasn't always on my radar, but March 17th, 2011, I quickly learned. I was nearing the prime of my career when one day, while at work, I could not pick up my legs. At that time, I didn't know this was the moment my life would change forever. All I remember being told to me in the emergency room was "You have MS, Multiple Sclerosis." I had no knowledge of the disease, but I vowed to learn. Overnight I lost my ability to walk unaided for the next seven years. In order to maintain my independence I had to fight for accommodations at my government job. That's what started my quest for advocacy for the disabled. The battle for accommodations at the workplace was lonely, arduous, time-consuming, and at times disheartening. The difficulty of navigating life with Multiple Sclerosis led me to the National MS Society.
